Andrew + Danielle | The Chrysler Museum of Art | Norfolk, VA | July

It was a black tie affair! Andrew and Danielle's wedding was very upscale with some very high end vendors. They knew exactly what they wanted and how they wanted it when it came to the design, the decor, and most importantly the music. It seemed like they had thought about it for years! For the ceremony they had a violin group during their processional and at the end of the ceremony it was my turn to play a New Orleans style big band song that was representative of where they both were from. The craziest part about this wedding process with them was knowing they were planning their entire wedding from out of state. Kudos to them for pulling off such an amazing wedding from far away!

Every single song they picked out had meaning to them. The song they were introduced into was All Dressed Up in Love by Jennifer Hudson and it was one of the brides favorite songs!

Their first dance was choreographed to Can't Take My Eyes off of You by Lauryn Hill. During the reception after dinner they had a band play and then it was my turn. They asked me to play very specific sets that embodied their personalities and their upbringings and tastes

for example: I did a new orleans “bounce set” of songs:

Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk) - Homebwoi & the Ying Yang Twins

Choppa Style - Choppa

Nice For What - Drake

Bend Ova - Lil John, Tyga

Ayy Ladies by Travis Porter

No Hands by (feat. Roscoe Dash & Wale)

Get It On The Floor - DMX

Get Low - Ying Yang Twins

My two favorite moments of their wedding was in the middle of the dance party I played Whitney Houston- I want to dance with somebody, it literally felt like I was in the middle of a movie! Everyone was singing and dancing with everything they had and when I did the New Orleans set the bride went crazy and all of the New Orleans people got out these giant flags and waved them around, it was so fun to watch!!

I was so impressed with this couple because they were so specific in their requests and how they wanted me to curate things then I have ever had before. This was a good experience for me because it forced me to play a different type of role than normal. I love being pushed out of my comfort zone. They wanted very formal introductions and announcements of their couples and just nonstop music. I want my couples to feel confident enough to do this or ask for exactly what they want. I want them to be as honest with me as possible about the type of music they want played and the level of instructiveness or role they want me to play during the reception. This is so important because it allows me to give you the night you have always dreamed of with the DJ experience you have paid for.

"It was an absolute pleasure to work with DJ West and his wife Shina. Truly one of the best decisions we've ever made was hiring them! From beginning to end, they focused exclusively on our musical vision for our wedding and how to create the party atmosphere that we wanted for our wedding reception. Our dance floor was PACKED the entire night, for over four hours--until the venue literally had to turn on the lights and force everyone to leave. The energy was AMAZING! We had a staggering amount of alcohol left over from our reception because everyone was on the dance floor the entire time, making very few trips to the bar. Music is extremely important to us--and for us, can make or break a party vibe. With that in mind, we gave DJ West a TON of very specific music requests, including specific playlists and requests for each of our cocktail hour, dinner, and dance floor portions of the evening; song mixes; dance floor sets (think: an 8-minute Beyonce segment, cleverly and seamlessly jumping from track to track); MC instructions; equipment requests, etc., and he delivered on EVERY SINGLE ONE. DJ West took it super seriously when we communicated our taste and vision, and we cannot say how much we appreciate it. He exceeded our expectations--and, not to mention, in a week when he had SIX weddings (on a holiday week, at that). I couldn't recommend DJ West enough. He and Shina are true professionals and just all around lovely people."
